This show is dedicated to the equine industry of Kentucky and while many of the artists were concentrated on horses and the present, I decided to take photographs of things from the past in an effort to highlight the varied contributions of the first professional athletes, (enslaved and free black) jockeys.

Isaac Burns Murphy, IMMAG, garden, equine, blackI wanted to pay homage to Isaac Murphy and the other black jockeys, trainers, grooms, blacksmiths, bookies, etc. that were instrumental in making horse racing (with thoroughbreds) important in Lexington, Kentucky, and the nation, as their accomplishments for various reasons have been overlooked.

And this photograph shows the foundation of the house that Isaac Murphy and his wife, Lucy. This foundation is visible at the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden.
